How Sunlight Can Increase Your Overall Health

Have you ever felt sad on a cold, dreary, wet day? That’s because your body responds to natural sunlight in several ways; and it craves the natural light. According to leading neuroscientist Alex Huberman, being exposed to sunlight can help increase alertness, better your mood, and help you sleep better. My wife and I have been putting this to the test everyday for the better part of 6 months. We wake up in the morning and make sure to sit on the back deck for 10-15 minutes enjoying our coffee while the sun is rising in the morning sky. We also do this for 10-15 minutes just before the sun goes down. Getting this natural light first thing when you wake up raises your cortisol levels triggering your mind to wake up. It will also start a timer for melatonin to be released later in the day to help with a restful sleep. When my wife first started talking about it I thought she was crazy, but after struggling to fall asleep several days in a row I decided to give it a try and I must say there is a connection with your mind, hormone levels, and the natural sunlight consumed everyday.
